JoSAA 2019 – Counselling & Seat Allotment
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had successfully conducted Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main) pen and paper based test on 3rd April 2019 and computer based Test on April 2019 at various prearranged examination centres in all across India. Now result were declared the same. All Qualified Candidates eligible for the JEE Advanced 2019 Exam.
Then Again The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), IIT Guahati conducted the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Advanced 2019 examination on May 2019 at 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM Paper 1 & 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Paper 2. JEE Adv 2019 Exam held various prearranged examination centres in all across India. Now result were declared the same also. Now All Qualified Candidates in JEE Main & JEE Advanced Exam are looking for JoSAA 2019 to participate in Counselling process, seat allotment.
JoSAA 2019 Details:
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2019 has been set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to manage and regulate the joint seat allocation for admissions to 92 institutes for the academic year 2019-20. This includes 22 IITs, ISM, 31 NITs, 20 IIITs and 18 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). Rules and procedure of JOSAA include guidelines framed by the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB), and Joint Admission Board (JAB).
In Year 2015, CSAB used to be the JEE Main Counselling and JAB looked after IIT admissions. Now instead of two separate counselling, they are held as a single counselling referred to as JOSAA. JoSAA 2019 Eligibility
There are four criteria defined by JoSAA. Candidates satisfying one or more of those can take part in the JoSAA 2019 Counselling. The page of JoSAA Registration and Choice Filling highlights these points.
Categorization of candidates for JoSAA 2019 Counselling
Candidates are divided into the following categories for the purpose of Joint Seat Allocation 2019:
- General (GEN)
- General Persons with disabilities (GEN-PwD)
- Other Backward Class Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL)
- Other Backward Class Non Creamy Layer Persons with disabilities (OBC-NCL PwD)
- Scheduled Caste (SC)
- Scheduled Caste Persons with disabilities (SC PwD)
- Scheduled Tribe (ST)
- Scheduled Tribe Persons with disabilities (ST PwD)
For candidates who have qualified in JEE (Advanced) 2019, the category of a candidate as entered in the database provided by the JEE apex board [which conducted JEE (Main) 2019] will be considered based on document verification by the Joint Admission Board 2019.
For candidates who have NOT registered for JEE (Advanced) 2019, category tag is assigned based on the candidate’s declaration in the JEE (Main) 2019 registration portal.
CANDIDATES WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN JOINT SEAT ALLOCATION
Each and every candidate who satisfies one or more of the following criteria is eligible for participation in joint seat allocation:
Criterion (i): Qualified in JEE (Advanced) 2019 for academic programs [excluding the preparatory courses] at IITs and ISM
satisfies the “Performance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination”* criteria as given in Annexure 3.
Criterion (ii): Qualified in JEE (Advanced) 2019 for preparatory courses at IITs and ISM
satisfies the “Performance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination”* criteria as given in Annexure 3.
Criterion (iii): Secured a rank in JEE (Main) 2019 Paper-1 for B.E./B.Tech. programs at NITs, IIEST, IIITs and Other-GFTIs
must have passed Class XII (or equivalent) examination* with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational subject. Further, the candidates must obtain at least 45% [for GEN] or 40%
[for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD] in each of the subjects.
Criterion (iv): Secured a rank in JEE (Main) 2019 Paper-2 for B.Arch./B.Planning programs at NITs, IIEST, IIITs and Other-GFTIs
has Mathematics as one of the subjects in Class XII (or equivalent) examination*
has obtained 50% aggregate marks [irrespective of whether the candidate belongs to the GEN, OBC-NCL, SC, ST or PwD category] in total five subjects including Mathematics.
*Class XII and equivalent examinations are given in Annexure 4.
IIT JEE JoSAA Seat Allocation 2019
All candidates who have appeared in JEE (Main) 2019 are eligible to register for seat allocation in NIT+ system (except IITs & ISM).All candidates who have declared qualified in JEE (Adv) 2019 are eligible to register for seat allocation in all participating Institutes.
Filling-in of choices:
Candidates may fill-in their choices of Institutes and branches in decreasing order of their preference. Candidates are strongly urged to fill-in as many choices as possible.
Locking of choices:
Candidates MUST “lock” their choices. For candidates who do NOT lock their choices, their last saved choices will be locked automatically when the time-window for filling-in of choices closes.
Number of rounds of seat allocation:
JoSAA will conduct four rounds that is 1st through 4th rounds of seat allocation for academic programs offered by Institutes under JoSAA 2019.
Candidates allotted a seat must pay the seat acceptance fee (through e-Challan/SBI NetBanking) and get the documents verified at any reporting center (josaa.nic.in) for provisional seat acceptance .
Participation in subsequent rounds:
A candidate is required to fill option for ‘freeze’, ‘slide’ or ‘float’ the choice of academic program.
If in a subsequent round, a candidate’s allotment from NIT+ system changes to an IIT/ ISM, the candidate MUST report ONCE AGAIN at an IIT reporting centre, similarly if a candidate’s allotment from IIT/ISM changes to an NIT+ system, the candidate MUST report ONCE AGAIN at any NIT+ reporting centre, failure to do so will result in forfeiture of seats allocated in both NIT+ system and IIT/ISM.
A candidate, who has already accepted a seat, can withdraw the seat by reporting at a reporting center before the fourth round of seat allocation.
Registration – Candidates who do NOT register within the specified time window WILL NOT be able to seek admission for this academic year
Filling-in of choices – Candidates who do NOT fill-in choices within the specified time window WILL NOT be able to seek admission for this academic year
Dual Reporting: Two times reporting required in case of seat allotment changes from NIT+s system to IITs/ISM and vice versa.
No modification of locked choices – once locked, choices CANNOT be modified.
JoSAA 2019 Seat Matrix
JOSAA 2019 Seat allotment results: There will be four (4) rounds of seat allotment in JOSAA 2019 for IITs ISM, NITs, IIITs, GFTIs. Once the choices have been locked by candidates, seat allotment is done taking into consideration the following factors.
- Category of the candidates.
- Position of the candidate in rank lists.
- Choices filled in order of priority.
- Availability of seats in different seat categories, seat quotas for which he / she is eligible.
- Business rules of JOSAA 2019.
If candidate is offered a seat in the round of counselling, he / she will have the options of freeze / float / slide. In case seat is frozen, they will not be considered for further rounds. For float or slide, they will be considered for next rounds.
Acceptance of seat: Candidate will get a certain period of time, as outlined in the schedule, to accept seat and take admission.
JOSAA 2019 official website or portal is josaa.nic.in, where all the activities related to JOSAA registration and choice filling, seat allotment result declaration are updated.
The following TYPES of rank lists will be prepared:
(i) Common rank list (CRL): It includes candidates who are assigned the tag GEN, GEN-PwD, OBC-NCL, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC, SC-PwD, ST or STPwD. Foreign tag candidates are also included in the CRL prepared based on JEE (Advanced) 2019.
(ii) OBC-NCL rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag OBC-NCL or OBC-NCL-PwD.
(iii) SC rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag SC or SCPwD.
(iv) ST rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag ST or STPwD.
(v) CRL-PwD rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag GEN-PwD, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC-PwD, or ST-PwD.
(vi) OBC-NCL-PwD rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag OBC-NCL-PwD.
(vii) SC-PwD rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag SCPwD.
(viii) ST-PwD rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag ST-PwD.
Only candidates who score the minimum prescribed marks in each subject and in aggregate will be included in the rank list. The minimum prescribed marks varies with the category. These are as shown in the following table.

Important Point for Registration:
1. Registration is a simple process where candidates reconfirm a few basic details, viz. gender, state code of eligibility and nationality, and provide their contact details.
2. The number of days of seat acceptance of various rounds is indicative. Actual dates will be published soon. Candidates are advised to visit http://josaa.nic.in for regular updates on schedule of events.
3. To accept allotted seats, candidates must pay seat acceptance fee and report at the respective reporting centre for document verification. During the scheduled period, reporting centres will be opened from 10:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs.
4. Withdrawal option is NOT available in the last round of seat acceptance period. 5. Beginning of academic sessions at IITs, ISM, NITs, IIITs (Triple-I-Ts) and Other-GFTIs will be announced in due course of time.
6. Delays or disruptions in service due to breakdown of JoSAA computer servers [due to reasons beyond the control of JoSAA 2019] shall be rectified as early as possible and notified on the web (http://www.jeeadv.ac.in OR http://josaa.nic.in). The decisions of JoSAA 2019 in this regard shall be final and binding.
